Rec a Series is a monthly post highlighting one of my favorite series, past or present. Last month, I recommended a newer urban fantasy/paranormal romance series set in an alternate dimension. This month, while wandering around AnomalyCon and with Emerald City ComicCon looming on the horizon, I’ll stick with pure fantasy. Let’s talk about the bet that became a best-selling series. Everyone has a thing they love. For some, it’s a sports team. They have all the jerseys, throw huge game-day parties, and ride the wave of the wins or losses of their team with an unfailing heart. For others, it’s a tv or movie franchise: Star Wars, Star Trek, The Walking Dead. Still others are wild about book series or anime or comic books. We all have that one thing, and some of us choose to celebrate that thing we love with others who love our thing, or very similar things. It’s springtime, so you know what that means, right? It’s CON SEASON!! This Monday, let’s talk about conventions! Continue reading “Monday Mumbles: Conventions”
Xavier wrestles with boredom at the zoo
Last week, my family flew up for a visit. We dragged them all around Seattle, took them to our favorite restaurants, and taught them the real meaning of the phrase “fuck this hill…in the EAR.” They flew out early in the afternoon, and while I’m sorry to see them leave I was happy for a bit of time to sit and write. Did I work on the edits of Petri? Oh no of course not! Instead, I dug up another old flash piece that’s been languishing on my computer. The original is from 2013, and after a read-through I felt it needed a makeover. So, I added about 500 words, altered the tone a bit, changed the protagonist’s name (as I’d since used it elsewhere), and made him into a bit of an unapologetic asshole.I hope you enjoy him. I did! Rec a Series is a monthly post highlighting one of my favorite series, past or present. I like alternating between newer and older series, so for March I’ll go with the sexy, dangerous, and cunning bludmen of Delilah Dawson’s world of Sang. There’s no doubt that Criminy Stain is the star of the Blud series, even when he’s not in the books (okay, that may just be me, but…mmmm, Criminy), but the others are almost as interesting. Not quite, but almost. Continue reading “Rec a Series: The Blud Series”
Progress on Petri and a quick teaser.
Well, another month has come and gone since the last update, so I’m popping in to hold myself accountable for my progress. A few legitimate things impeded workflow over the past month. Taxes – ’nuff said. We took a trip down to Portland, OR, for a three day weekend for our 25th anniversary. We came home from Portland with a nasty cold that bordered on flu-like symptoms which meant we were doped up ’til the world went spinny. We’re still struggling to get over it. Still…here’s how things are going on the Petri front, along with a snippet of the new material. Continue reading “Petri Update: Watch as I Plod Along…”
