Rec a Series is a monthly post highlighting one of my favorite series, past or present. I like alternating between newer and older series, so for March I’ll go with the sexy, dangerous, and cunning bludmen of Delilah Dawson’s world of Sang. There’s no doubt that Criminy Stain is the star of the Blud series, even when he’s not in the books (okay, that may just be me, but…mmmm, Criminy), but the others are almost as interesting. Petri Update: Watch as I Plod Along…

Progress on Petri and a quick teaser.

Well, another month has come and gone since the last update, so I’m popping in to hold myself accountable for my progress. A few legitimate things impeded workflow over the past month. Taxes – ’nuff said. We took a trip down to Portland, OR, for a three day weekend for our 25th anniversary. We came home from Portland with a nasty cold that bordered on flu-like symptoms which meant we were doped up ’til the world went spinny. We’re still struggling to get over it. Flash Short: CityFest

A piece of flash fiction…just because.

I was going through my files today and stumbled across this old short. I’d posted it to another site, now defunct, back in 2012 and promptly forgot about it. It’s a flash piece. A little longer than most at 2700 words, but still too short to be anything else. It’s very loosely based on every small-town Southern city festival I’ve ever been to – from the booths to the petty politics. Guilty Pleasures: ElfQuest

Guilty pleasures. We all have ’em. This is one of mine. What’s yours?

Defined as “something, such as a movie, television program, or piece of music that one enjoys despite feeling that it is not generally held in high regard,” I can think of nothing as revered and reviled in equal measure as comic books. Like the rest of my reading history, I enoyed an odd assortment of titles. Most were independent titles not forced to conform to the restrictive comics code. Graphic novels like Maus, a story about Jews in WWII, and the original Watchmen. Monster comics like Michael Morbius, the Living Vampire, and the excellent I…Vampire series found in the House of Mystery. But my absolute favorite was an independent series by husband and wife team, Wendy and Richard Pini: ElfQuest. Continue reading “Guilty Pleasures: ElfQuest”
