Defiance at the Blood Lottery takes an unexpected turn.
It’s been ages since I’ve participated in one of Chuck Wendig‘s flash prompts, but this week tossed a baited hook into the ol’ brain pond and trapped a rabid plot bunny. Last week Chuck asked his readers to give him titles. This week, he chose ten that struck his fancy, posted them up, and asked that we choose one and take it for a spin. This title hooked me hard and it was difficult not to go into a lot more detail than I did. This was a mean, vicious, evil plot bunny that I intend to nurture…er, no, no, I mean, lock away forever and ever. After this short. Yeah. That’s it. Rec a Series is a monthly post highlighting one of my favorite series, past or present. I’ve bounced around quite a bit on these series—romance, fantasy, paranormal—and this one is no different. We’re diving into romantic speculative fiction of an historical nature. Steampunk! Airships, automatons, Victorian fashions, vampires, werewolves…wait…what? Ah, spring. Baseball, fickle weather, beautiful flowers, allergies…and conventions! Washington has outdone itself over the past month with some gorgeous weather. Here’s a rambling recap of our debut attendance of Emerald City ComiCon. Continue reading “ECCC 2016 – A Recap”
Rec a Series is a monthly post highlighting one of my favorite series, past or present. Last month, I recommended a newer urban fantasy/paranormal romance series set in an alternate dimension. This month, while wandering around AnomalyCon and with Emerald City ComicCon looming on the horizon, I’ll stick with pure fantasy. Let’s talk about the bet that became a best-selling series. Continue reading “Rec a Series: The Codex Alera”
Everyone has a thing they love. For some, it’s a sports team. They have all the jerseys, throw huge game-day parties, and ride the wave of the wins or losses of their team with an unfailing heart. For others, it’s a tv or movie franchise: Star Wars, Star Trek, The Walking Dead. Still others are wild about book series or anime or comic books. We all have that one thing, and some of us choose to celebrate that thing we love with others who love our thing, or very similar things. It’s springtime, so you know what that means, right? It’s CON SEASON!! This Monday, let’s talk about conventions! Continue reading “Monday Mumbles: Conventions”
