Trope Tuesdays

I’m back for another look at the various tropes found in romance and/or urban fantasy. These tropes are the underlying theme of a novel, such as “enemies to lovers” or “fated mates.” Some are beloved standards in the industry. Others are a hard line drawn in the sand. All draw different reactions from different readers (and sometimes from the same reader at different times in their lives). I’ll provide links to my favorites.

Cover Reveal and a Giveaway!

Today I’m so excited to finally share with you the cover of The Wolves of Sorrow: Shoba. Rosanna Leo, author of the amazing Handyman and Vegas Sins Series, has graciously allowed me to take over her blog today for a full cover reveal, the official blurb, an excerpt, and most importantly, a chance to give away three (3) e-copies of the ARC!

Trope Tuesdays

The word “trope” has several definitions, but the one I’m focusing on in this series is “commonly recurring literary and rhetorical devices, motifs or clichés in creative works.” So, things like “friends/enemies to lovers” or “secret billionaire” or “forced proximity.” I’ll be covering my likes, my dislikes, the ones that just make me shrug, and the reasons why they elicit that response. For clarity, I will say I got this idea from a YouTuber/author named Alexa Donne, but I’ll be focusing primarity on the romance and urban fantasy genres.

Tuesday Teaser: Petri

Petri is snug in the hands of the editor and I’m working on a few shorts to promote my favorite sci/fi space boys. I won’t have an estimated publish date on Petri until I get an eye on the edits, but I still have an eye toward spring. Below are two snippets. The first is from Petri, a scene right after Petri and Grokhaar’s first meeting. The second is from the first of the shorts with a much, much younger Grokhaar. Enjoy! Rec a Series: Psy/Changeling Series

Rec a Series is a monthly post highlighting one of my favorite series, past or present. With the holidays approaching, I’ve decided to go with a “sweeter” series by Nalini Singh. Lusty leopards, hierarchical wolves, feisty humans, and oh those stoic Psy! Let’s dive into the alternate world of the Psy/Changeling Series. Continue reading “Rec a Series: Psy/Changeling Series”

Petri Update: Summer Edition

It’s been several busy months since I’ve posted an update to my favorite space couple. Most of the new material needed to flesh out the front end of the novel is now complete and I can work towards weaving in existing material. This process has been slower than I’d like, but I confess to enjoying the summer weather (and new book releases) a bit too much to have proper motivation. All in all, here’s the lowdown on progress: Continue reading “Petri Update: Summer Edition”

Rec a Series: The Edge

Rec a Series is a monthly post highlighting one of my favorite series, past or present. This month’s spotlight is on a lesser known series by one of my favorite urban fantasy authors. Best known for their kick-ass heroine Kate Daniels, the husband/wife team of Ilona Andrews also created a world of multiple dimensions. The Broken—a world without magic but with things like cell phones and Walmart. Our world. The real world? Then there’s the Weird where magic runs high. Bluebloods rule, changelings are shut away as children and trained to be an elite but expendable fighting force, and the air force consists of griffins. But the most fascinating stories? Those dwell in the Edge. Continue reading “Rec a Series: The Edge”

Monday Mumbles: That First Book

What’s the first book you remember reading? Not the ones you know you read, or ones you know your parents read to you (if they did), but the first book you actually remember reading. Do you remember, still, a section, a snippet of dialogue or narrative, just the cover? Did that book influence your future preferences? It’s Monday, let’s mumble on about that first book.
